We knit & crochet hats and scarves to send to orphans all over the world. KWAM is a Project of the Global Outreach Department of Youth With A Mission (YWAM) Metro New York. We have two established groups, one in Long Island, NY and one in Connecticut. We will soon multiply another group in Mexico City! Because we can piggy-back our shipments with YWAM Team Members who travel the globe, we are in the unique position to reach out to the most needy, and often most forgotten, children in the world.
We realized the vision for Knitters With A Mission in January 2008, and our first Project became "Chile Warmers". We sent the word out, made posters and received a giant influx of knitted and crocheted items for orphans in Santiago, CHILE. A Team of 3 was planning a trip from the USA down to Chile in May. We mailed our things to the Team and they were able to carry them on-board as extra baggage. Chile's winter is our summer, so the timing was perfect!
Since then we have sent shipments to orphanages in UKRAINE, RUSSIA, MEXICO; and our next collection is due Thanksgiving Weekend (November 28 and 29th, 2009).
As soon as the vision came, God opened the doors. And He has continued to open each and every door -- as needed!
As we open our hearts to do something...even something that seems to us as small and insignificant as knitting a child's hat!...the God of Creation blesses this act of kindness. He told us to clothe the naked; and Jesus said the poor will always be among us. Each little act of kindness we do such as this, builds quickly and multiplies exponentially. It's amazing to see and it blesses your heart with a gladness like nothing else in this World!
